Call for expressions of interest to join the TENI Board of Directors

We’re open to expressions of interest for individuals to join the TENI Board of Directors to fill casual vacancies (def.: seats that have become vacant during the term of a board).

We hope to find individuals with experience in:

  • Human resources
  • Finance
  • Fundraising

We’re open to applications from all trans community members and allies. As an organisation devoted to inclusive governance, we hope to appoint board members representative of under-served groups in the Irish population, including Irish Travellers, the POC communities, and people who are seeking or have sought international protection.

The traits and skills that are helpful to board members of TENI include:

  • A passion to support the TENI’s mission to advance equality for trans people, and improve the lives of trans people and their families
  • A strong sense of respect and a collaborative approach when working with others.
  • Curiosity and open-mindedness
  • Dependability and reliability
  • A willingness and ability to devote the required time to the board’s duties
  • Integrity, honesty and an ethical approach to leadership

In addition, it helps to have an understanding of the responsibility of being a board member and how individual actions may reflect on the organisation.

Furthermore, it is important that board members have some specialist skills or knowledge. As a board entirely made up of volunteers, it’s vital that the organisation has a broad mix of specialist skills and lived experience to ensure we are running effectively. These skills may include HR, finance, digital skills, fundraising, charity and NGO governance, communications, Irish law, or other skills you can contribute.

Board membership is an unpaid position. Directors are asked to be available for at least one board meeting per month as well as for the AGM. In addition, directors are invited to support a selection of community events during the year and take part in sub-committee work. This amounts to around 8 hours a month of volunteer time.

All new board members will receive an induction and information to support you with taking up your role. We aim to make joining as accessible as possible. We do recommend that individuals read more broadly about the responsibilities of being an NGO or charity director before putting themselves forward for co-option.

If you are interested in being considered for co-option, please email a cover letter and CV outlining your relevant experience and motivation for joining the Board of Directors to chair@teni.ie

A subgroup of the TENI board will assess applicationss and applicants may be asked to participate in a short interview.

There are up to six spaces available for co-option to fill identified skills gaps.

The deadline for applications is Friday May 31st at 5 p.m.
