WE ARE HIRING! Policy and Communications Projects Officer

Transgender Equality Network Ireland (TENI) seeks a full-time Policy and Communications Projects Officer to join our team.

TENI works to advance the rights and equality of transgender people in Ireland.

Job Description

Title: Policy and Communications Projects Officer

Role: The post holder will coordinate TENI’s policy and research output and maintain key external communications in line with our mission and strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

Policy Development and Research

At the request of Chief Executive, draft responses to Government policy initiatives and proposals for legislation on trans and related issues

• Conduct briefing sessions on policy issues to key stakeholders

• Represent TENI at national and international level on trans and related policy matters

• Coordinate new and existing research projects on trans and related issues conducted at a national and international level

• Supervise research conducted on behalf of TENI by commissioned researchers, interns or volunteers

• Identify new funding opportunities with a substantial policy and research element and prepare reports


Maintain and develop TENI’s public profile

Ensure key messages relating to TENI’s mission and strategic objectives are publicised through our policy and research output

Coordinate engagement with members of the community, policy makers, the media and the general public using relevant platforms, (website, social media, publications, etc) 

Contribute to external events planning and coordination

Other Duties

Other reasonable duties as identified by the Chief Executive in pursuance of the mission and strategic objectives of the organisation

Skills and Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and qualifications


2 years experience in a comparable role

Proven knowledge and understanding of human rights and equality law and policy pertaining to LGBTQI+ issues

Ability to analyse and formulate policy positions 

Strong written and oral communication skills 

Proven ability to communicate with policy makers and stakeholders on related policy matters 

Knowledge of quantitative and/or qualitative research methods• Report writing to publication standard

Proven experience in project management with an emphasis on policy and research projects

Ability to plan and organise work to timely delivery of outputs • Evidence of ability to work on own initiative

Excellent knowledge of IT and social media


A third level qualification in a related discipline (e.g. social science, law)

In depth knowledge of transgender issues and related matters• Experience in working on LGBTQI policy at national and international level (e.g. Oireachtas, EU, UN)

Experience in fundraising and funding applications

NB: Proven past experience working in the area of transgender rights and related issues will be a distinct advantage.

This is a full-time position – 37.5 hours per week.
