TENI welcomes our new Chief Executive Officer

TENI are delighted to announce the appointment of Stephen O'Hare as our new Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Stephen joins us in November from the Irish Council of Civil Liberties (ICCL), where he currently holds the post of JUSTICA Programme Director and EU Grants Manager. Stephen has been an active member and supporter of TENI's work for many years. He has also been part of the TENI's Gender Recognition Legal Working group since its inception in 2013.

Stephen holds a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy and Political Science (2004) and Master’s degree in Applied Social Research (2005) from Trinity College Dublin. In 2015 he completed the Barrister-at-Law degree at the Honorable Society of King’s Inns. Prior to his current role, Stephen worked as Senior Research and Policy Programme Manager with the Irish Council for Civil Liberties (ICCL), as Policy and Research Officer with Pavee Point, the national Traveller and Roma organisation; Research Officer with the National Council on Ageing and Older People and Consultant Researcher for the Health Services Executive (HSE).

Commenting on the appointment, TENI Chair Sara R Phillips said “We are delighted to announce Stephen's appointment as the next Chief Executive Officer of TENI. This follows a comprehensive selection process led by the Board’s Hiring Committee. Stephen brings a wealth of experience in human rights advocacy and research. He has been part of of our community for many years and understands the up coming challenges. It will be incumbent upon Stephen to ensure that trans voices will continue to be central to all that TENI does in the future. The Board and staff will support him in ensuring our campaign of Positive Visibility will continue to improve the lives of the trans community in Ireland".

Stephen commenting on his appointment said "I am deeply honoured to have been appointed Chief Executive Officer with TENI. In my previous role with ICCL, I have worked closely, over many years, with TENI on key policy and campaign initiatives relating to equality and human rights of trans people. In that time, I have been truly inspired by the dedication, commitment, vision and leadership both within the organisation and among its members and supporters as it strives to secure real and substantial progress for trans people in Ireland. I would like to thank Chairperson Sara R Phillips and the members of the Board of Directors for giving me this opportunity and I very much look forward to joining such a dynamic team."
