Information on upcoming seminar and report on healthcare issues for trans people in Northern Ireland.
UNISON is delighted to support the launch of ‘Healthcare Issues for Transgender People Living in Northern Ireland’ which takes place on Mon 25th July from 2-4pm in UNISON. Looking at not just healthcare but also issues for young people coming out as trans and the impact on families when a parent transitions, this event is aimed at education as well as health and social care professionals.
This important report by Ruari McBride, Institue for Conflict Research, explores the health care experiences of trans people living in Northern Ireland. Drawing on the experiences of trans people themselves and those of healthcare personnel with professional experiences working with the trans community the report discusses the prevalence of bad working practices and highlights examples of best practice.
The report identifies gaps, as well as flaws, in current health and social care provision and makes recommendations for how to improve the services afforded to Northern Ireland’s trans community. The afternoon will include a presentation of report findings by Ruari McBride, Institute for Conflict Research, input from members of the transgender community as well as from Angela Sayers and Patsy McArdle, cognitive behaviour psychotherapists with the Gender Identity Service as well as offering opportunities for discussion.
This event is free. To book a place contact Anne Campbell a.campbell2@unison.co.uk02890270190 or book online
